RESOLUTION NO. 2013- .01b <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO <br /> PARTICIPATE IN THE "PRESTIGE CULTURAL SERIES AT <br /> BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS 2013-2014" PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING A <br /> CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS OF <br /> FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (FIU), IN THE AMOUNT <br /> OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS (S5,000.00), AND A PERFORMANCE <br /> DONATION TO THE FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY <br /> SCHOOL OF MUSIC, IN THE AMOUNT OF FIFTEEN THOUSAND <br /> DOLLARS (S15,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO <br /> ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION: <br /> PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed in participating and informing <br /> its residents of cultural events and activities taking place in and around our community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC) of Florida International University (FIU) <br /> has invited the City to become a co-partner in the FIU Prestige Cultural Series at BBC 2013 - <br /> 2014 to engage our community in outstanding cultural experiences in the educational setting of <br /> the Biscayne Bay Campus; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Prestige Cultural Series at BBC 2013-2014 will include five events, <br /> four at the Biscayne Bay Campus, and one event "Musical Theater Scenes" will be held in the <br /> Norman S. Edelcup SIB K-8 School on Saturday, February 1, 2014; and <br /> WHEREAS, additionally, through student and faculty performances, FIU will bring four <br /> (4) programs directly to Sunny Isles Beach through the Four Seasons Cultural Series providing <br /> opportunities for students to gain more performance experience and City residents are offered <br /> quality shows at affordable prices; and <br /> WHEREAS, the partnership between the City and FIU is mutually beneficial to our <br /> residents and visitors, and it can be incorporated into the City's existing Cultural Events <br /> Program. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION <br /> OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1_ Approval of Partnership. The City Commission hereby approves the partnership <br /> between the City and Florida International University (FIU). <br /> Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Commission directs the City Manager to do <br /> all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution, which includes but is not limited to donating <br /> Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to Biscayne Bay Campus of FIU for the Prestige Cultural <br /> R2013-Contribution to FIU Prestige Cultural Series 1 <br />
