PROJECT APPROACH
INTRODUCTION
Ric -Man International, Inc, Anzac Contractors, and Stantec Team is very excited about the opportunity to provide the City of
Sunny Isles with design -build services for the Gateway Park Pedestrian Access Improvements. In general terms the scope of the
project is for the design and construction of a pedestrian bridge that crosses the westbound ramp of State Road 826 (aka Sunny
Isles Blvd). The intent is to connect the city owned parcel that lies between the eastbound and westbound ramps to SR826.
We have assembled a team that has a full understanding of the City's natural, historic, cultural and design character and
understand the sensitive nature of construction activities in particular when this occur in close proximity to residential
neighborhoods. Upon receiving notification of this RFP, our Team scheduled a field visit to get a full understanding of the
residential environment where this work is to take place. Our understanding of the project scope is hence based in our field visits,
aerial photographs, preliminary plans /concepts and reports provided as part of the RFP and Criteria Package.
CONCEPTUAL DESIGN AND DESIGN ISSUES
PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
The Design/Build team has reviewed the different bridge alternative for this particular project and we have decided that a
prefabricated steel bridge manufactured by Contech Bridge Solutions, Inc. Some other reasons that we have selected a
prefabricated steel bridge:
✓ This type of bridge has been widely used on other FDOT and municipal projects which Stantec and Anzac have been
worked together and successfully completed.
✓ A prefabricated pedestrian bridge saves time and money on design and engineering expense.
✓ A prefabricated pedestrian bridge will save time in installation.
✓ A prefabricated pedestrian bridge will cost less than other traditional methods.
✓ It provides an aesthetic advantage especially given that it is located at the "exit' Sunny Isles Blvd
✓ The impact on traffic on westbound SR 826 is minimized due to the fact that the erection of this bridge can be
accomplished in one closure as opposed to several closures that would be needed with other bridge alternatives.
✓ The prefabricated bridge superstructure depth is minimal which results in a lower profile and shorter bridge approaches.
✓ Pre - fabrication lead time is approximately 12 weeks from shop drawing approval.
Proposed Conceptual Design
1 64
