Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting July I8.2013 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida <br /> 5. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br /> 5A. A Presentation Commemorating the 15th Anniversary of the Police Department and its <br /> Service to the City of Sunny Isles Beach. <br /> Action: Chief Fred Maas said July 20, 2013 is the 15th Anniversary of the inception of the <br /> Sunny Isles Beach Police Department, and he noted the many changes that have occurred <br /> over these past 15 years. Captain Dwight Snyder on behalf of the men and women of the <br /> Police Department presented a plaque to the Mayor and City Commission in gratitude for <br /> everything the Commission has done for them. The plaque was designed in Washington DC <br /> by members of our Honor Guard at the National Police Memorial. It not only represents the <br /> support that the City Commission has given the Police Department but what the Commission <br /> has done for the entire law enforcement community. Captain Snyder read the plaque into the <br /> record, and noted that this is a depiction of the National Police Wall where officers are <br /> honored in Washington DC. He noted the Commemorative Badge was made specifically for <br /> the 50th Anniversary of the Police Memorial. <br /> Mayor Edelcup on behalf of the City Commission thanked Chief Maas and the entire Police <br /> Department. He said the Police Force is the heartbeat of our City and we are proud to know <br /> that we have the finest Police Force in all of South Florida if not in the entire nation. <br /> 5B. Certificates of Acknowledgement to be Presented to Two Sunny Isles Beach Residents who <br /> Won the"International Distance"of the Mack Cycle Triathlon Trilogy and Duathlon Trilogy <br /> held on Virginia Key: Mike Butler and Sandra Forero. <br /> Action: Mayor Edelcup reported and presented the Certificates to athletes Mike Butler and <br /> Sandra Forero. <br /> 5C. A Proclamation Declaring August 12-16,2013 as"Florida Water Professionals Week"in <br /> the City of Sunny Isles Beach. <br /> Action: Mayor Edelcup reported and presented the Proclamation to Renee Moticker, <br /> Director of the Florida Water& Pollution Control Operations Association—Region 7. Ms. <br /> Moticker thanked the Commission and noted that Region 7 encompasses Miami-Dade, <br /> Broward, and Monroe Counties with almost 900 members. <br /> [City Clerk's Note: Item 7A was heard after Item 5C as Joe Milton was not here yet.] <br /> 5D. A Proclamation Declaring July 18, 2013 as a Memorial Day to Remember the Life of <br /> "Jose Milton" in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. <br /> Action: Mayor Edelcup reported that one of the City's Founding Developers, Jose Milton, <br /> passed away two weeks ago, and he read the Proclamation into the record. Mayor Edelcup <br /> and the City Commission presented the Proclamation to Jose Milton's son Joe Milton. Joe <br /> Milton on behalf of the Milton family thanked the Mayor and City Commission for this <br /> honor. He said his father fell in love with this City and through the years he wanted to give <br /> back to this community, and Joe Milton wants to follow through on his father's words to <br /> complete that legacy and really give back to this City in a way that his father would be proud. <br /> [City Clerk's Note: Item 9A was heard after Item 5D and the remainder of the agenda <br /> was heard in order.] <br /> 2 <br />
