RESOLUTION NO. 2013 - '51� <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE <br />INSTALLATION OF FIBER OPTIC CABLE FOR PUBLIC USE IN <br />THE FLORIDA EAST COAST RAIL CORRIDOR; URGING ALL <br />MUNICIPALITIES OF MIAMI -DADE COUNTY TO SUPPORT <br />THE INSTALLATION OF FIBER OPTIC CABLE FOR PUBLIC <br />USE IN THE FLORIDA EAST COAST RAIL CORRIDOR; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS <br />NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council representing the local <br />governments of Indian River, Martin, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie Counties unanimously passed <br />on July 19, 2013 Resolution No. 13 -01 to support the installation of fiber optic cable for public <br />use in the Florida East Coast rail corridor; and <br />WHEREAS, fiber optic technology provides a high speed broadband communication <br />system that is a catalyst to enhance job creation, economic development, healthcare, and <br />education; and <br />WHEREAS, Southeast Florida does not have fiber optic infrastructure available for <br />public use throughout the region; and <br />WHEREAS, the All Aboard Florida project is a proposal by Florida East Coast Industries <br />to introduce express passenger rail service between Miami and Orlando follows the Florida East <br />Coast rail corridor; and <br />WHEREAS, the Florida East Coast rail corridor is an ideal location for the co- location of <br />fiber optic infrastructure because it links most of the urban areas in Southeast Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach urges other Municipalities of Miami -Dade <br />County to support the installation of fiber optic cable for public use in the Florida East Coast rail <br />corridor. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The recitals set forth in this Resolution are <br />incorporated herein by reference as if fully set forth herein. <br />Section 2. Supporting the Installation of Fiber Optic Cable.
