RESOLUTION NO. 2013 -_(P <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING <br />THE CHIEF OF POLICE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE <br />COMPREHENSIVE CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1984 TO <br />EXPEND UP TO TWENTY -FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS <br />($25,000.00) FROM THE FEDERAL FORFEITURE (DOJ) <br />FUNDS FOR THE PURCHASE OF MISCELLANEOUS <br />TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT FOR LAW <br />ENFORCEMENT/INVESTIGATIVE PURPOSES TO BE USED <br />BY THE DEA/HIDTA PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, the City <br />and its Police Department are authorized to expend forfeiture funds from the established Department <br />of Justice (DOJ) federal forfeiture account, for the approved programs or purchases intended to <br />enhance law enforcement purposes; and <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, upon the <br />request of the Chief of Police to the governing body of a municipality, federally forfeited funds may <br />be expended if accompanied by written certification by the Chief of Police that the request complies <br />with the provisions of the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984; and <br />WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has submitted a request for the expenditure of up to <br />Twenty -Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) in federally forfeited funds in compliance with the <br />aforementioned. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Expenditure of Partial Federally Forfeited Monies. Based on the attached certification, <br />the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to spend up to $25,000.00 from the established Department <br />of Justice (DOJ) federal forfeitures account for the purchase of miscellaneous technology /electronic <br />equipment for law enforcement /investigative purposes (ie: Magtex Card Readers for police vehicles, <br />document scanners, computers /monitors, etc.) to be used by the Drug Enforcement Administration <br />High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program (DEA /HIDTA). <br />Section 2. Effective Date.
