Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting October 17, 2013 City of Sunny Isles Beach. Florida
are not architects, they are giving you a space in the air; you need a few inches here and there.
When he said nominal it is not like what you gave to Chateau which eliminated a beach walk
which was the vision of the City by Mayor Samson, Nye started having those beach walks
between the towers for the residents. Here we are adding something for the residents. a
quality bank, a quality building-, and a place where you can actually go to work and not leave
the City, and parking on the weekends if you want it. If you don't want it they have no
problem shutting it down, it is not a profit center for them.
City Attorney Ottinot said since the Applicant has proffered that they will restrict the parking
use to tenants of the building, we will put that in as a condition. Mayor Edelcup said this is a
good start for our City to have a prime office building here. A Class "A" office building has
been sorely needed in our City, and it will help bring people to the City. It has been said by
the developers that they will be able to live and work in the City and that will help businesses
within our City since these people will be working and available and at lunch time to use other
facilities in the City. Having a prime bank in this City is also a plus for us and if we can work
out the Atlantic Boulevard situation for traffic he does not see any reason not to approve this
building and start on the path of having a good base for office people to be able to come and
use our City,. As we know, we do not have any other industry in our City other than tourism
and the businesses that support tourism, it would be nice to have a second level of business in
our City and the activity that it brings and that would be in the area of offices. Certainly we
are never going to have manufacturing or heavy commercials and so office structures would
be the ideal secondary source of activity for people living and working in our City.
City Attorney Ottinot restated the additional three (3) conditions: 1) The Applicant is to work
with City staff; 2) Limit ingress to Atlantic Boulevard, and the Applicant will be responsible
to relocate if it impacts as the City Manager indicated at his or her expense; and 3) make sure
that the parking is used by the tenants and customers of the building.
Vice Mayor Aelion moved and Commissioner Levin seconded a motion for approval,
subject to staff conditions, as amended. Resolution No. 13 -Z -138 was adopted by a roll
call vote of 4 -1 (Commissioner Scholl against) in favor.
Vote: Commissioner Gatto ves
Commissioner Levin ves
Commissioner Scholl no
Vice Mayor Aelion ves
Mayor Edelcup ves
[City Clerk's Atote: The Commission took a five - minute break, and then heard Item 6.4.]
7.
