RESOLUTION NO. 2014 - 2gC) <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING <br />THE MONTH OF MARCH AS "BIKE305 MONTH "; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL <br />THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS <br />RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, in 2007, Miami -Dade County, through the Miami -Dade Park, Recreation <br />and Open Spaces Department ( "PROS "), adopted the Parks and Open Space Master Plan <br />( "Master Plan ") as a 50 -year unifying vision and public declaration of principles and goals for a <br />seamless, sustainable system of great parks, public spaces, natural areas, cultural areas, <br />greenways. water trails, and streets throughout the County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Master Plan's goals include the promotion of healthy lifestyles for <br />County residents and visitors through the provision of quality outdoor recreation opportunities on <br />greenways and trails throughout our County and our region; and <br />WHEREAS, opportunities to walk and bicycle on greenways and trails, a safe and <br />comfortable environment, enhances transit options, promotes active and healthy lifestyles and <br />wellness through physical activity, and builds pride in our communities; and <br />WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County has been developing a series of events to highlight the <br />Master Plan's goals of connecting people to places via the County's bike pathways; and <br />WHEREAS, this effort began in the southeastern section of the County, has expanded <br />from there, and will continue to expand into a Countywide effort in order to reach and positively <br />impact all of the residents of Miami -Dade County and its regions: and <br />WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, along with City of Coral <br />Gables Mayor Jim Cason, Town of Cutler Bay Mayor Edward MacDougall, City of Doral Mayor <br />Luigi Boria, City of Homestead Mayor Jeff Porter, Village of Key Biscayne Mayor Franklin <br />Caplan, City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, City of Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine. City <br />of Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver G. Gilbert III, City of North Miami Mayor Lucie M. Tondreau, <br />Village of Palmetto Bay Mayor Shelley Stanczyk, Village of Pinecrest Mayor Cindy Lerner, City <br />of South Miami Mayor Philip K. Stoddard, City of Sunny Isles Beach Mayor Norman S. Edelcup <br />and Town of Surfside Mayor Daniel Dietch have collaborated and united to support the <br />connectivity of people and places through the County's bike pathways as a way for County <br />residents to explore and enjoy parks and attractions along or near our trailways and in order to <br />promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle; and <br />WHEREAS, PROS and various municipal parks" departments have partnered to provide <br />opportunities to bicycle and walk in a safe and comfortable environment; and <br />WHEREAS, County residents and visitors will be able to learn about the parks. <br />attractions and events along pathways and trails and plan an outing on such pathways and trails <br />R2014- March as Bike305 Month Paac I of 3 <br />
