Provide reinforcement not more than 8 inches (203 mm) above and below wall <br />openings and extending 12 inches (305 mm) beyond openings in addition to <br />continuous reinforcement. <br />B. Interrupt joint reinforcement at control and expansion joints unless otherwise <br />indicated. <br />C. Provide continuity at corners and wall intersections by using prefabricated âLâ and âTâ <br />sections. <br />D. Cut and bend reinforcing units as directed by manufacturer for continuity at returns, <br />offsets, column fireproofing, pipe enclosures, and other special conditions. <br />3.7 ANCHORING MASONRY TO CONCRETE <br />A. Anchor masonry to concrete where masonry abuts or faces concrete to comply with <br />the following: <br />1. Provide an open space not less than 1/2 inch wide between masonry and <br />concrete unless otherwise indicated. Keep open space free or mortar and other <br />rigid materials. <br />2. Anchor masonry with anchors embedded in masonry joints and attached to <br />structure. <br />3. Space anchors at 16 inches o.c. vertically and 36 inches. <br />3.8 CONTROL AND EXPANSION JOINTS <br />A. General: Install control and expansion joint materials as shown on architectural <br />drawings as masonry progresses. Do not allow materials to span control and <br />expansion joints without provision to allow for in-plane wall or partition movement. <br />B. Form control joints in concrete masonry as follows: <br />1. Install backer-rod in head joints and apply sealant after concrete masonry is <br />complete. <br />3.9 LINTELS <br />A. Provide masonry lintels where shown and where openings of more than 24 inches are <br />shown. Reinforce and grout lintels as shown on the Drawings. <br />B. Install steel lintels where indicated. <br />C. Provide minimum bearing of 8 inches at each jamb, unless otherwise indicated.
