RESOLUTION NO. 2019- Z?Zf <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR <br /> FLORIDA SENATE BILL 540 RELATING TO THE ISSUE OF <br /> IDENTIFYING INSTANCES OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING; <br /> URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND GOVERNOR RON <br /> DESANTIS TO SUPPORT AND APPROVE THE LEGISLATION; <br /> DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF <br /> THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, Senator Lauren Book has filed Senate Bill 540 for consideration by the <br /> Florida Legislature to revise Chapter 509 of the Florida Statutes to require the owner or operator <br /> of a public lodging establishment to train employees who routinely interact with guests to complete <br /> an educational program designed to effectively train them in identification, prevention, and <br /> reporting of suspected human trafficking; and <br /> WHEREAS, these proposed revisions will require the owner or operator of a public <br /> lodging establishment to implement an effective employee protocol or employee code of conduct <br /> to prevent, detect, and report suspected human trafficking; and <br /> WHEREAS, these proposed revisions will require the Department of Children and <br /> Families to establish a certain direct-support organization; and <br /> WHEREAS, these proposed revisions will require an individual to be added to the <br /> Soliciting for Prostitution Registry if they are convicted of, or enter a plea of guilty or nolo <br /> contendere to soliciting, inducing, enticing, or procuring another to commit prostitution, lewdness, <br /> or assignation; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the public and the victims of human trafficking <br /> throughout the state of Florida that the Florida Legislature adopt proposed Senate Bill 540. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br /> CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA,AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Recitals. The foregoing"WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and incorporated <br /> herein. <br /> Section 2. Support for Senate Bill 540. The City Commission hereby expresses support for <br /> Senate Bill 540 and urges the Florida Legislature to adopt and Governor Ron DeSantis to support <br /> and approve it. <br /> Section 3. Directions to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is directed to distribute copies of this <br /> Resolution to Senator Lauren Book, Governor Ron DeSantis, the Speaker of the House of <br /> Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, the Florida League of Cities, the Florida <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br /> Reso expressing support for SB 540 <br />
