Espino <br />Daniel A. Espino, a Miami native of Cuban descent, is a government law attorney <br />with the firm of Weiss Serota Holtman. Dan possesses unique insight into local <br />government gained from having been an elected -official. Dan practices in the <br />Firm's Local Government Division, Land Use and Zoning Group and Government <br />Affairs and Procurement Group. Having served on the City Council for the City of <br />Miami Springs and served as a City attorney for multiple municipalities, Dan has <br />developed substantial knowledge and experience in issues related to local <br />governments throughout south Florida. Amongst legal, elected, and appointed <br />positions, Dan has amassed over 17 years of local government experience. <br />Dan is the City Attorney for the City of Miami Springs and served as the City <br />Attorney for the City of Doral for nearly five years. He also represents Virginia <br />Gardens and Medley and has represented Cutler Bay, Pinecrest, and Southwest <br />Ranches. As City Attorney, Dan serves as general counsel to municipalities <br />handling everything from public contract, meetings and records to land -use, <br />zoning, labor, and legislative matters. He has handled matters involving public <br />sector procurement, zoning and code changes, interlocal and intergovernmental <br />agreements, municipal annexations,. and various stages of affordable housing and <br />other land development projects. He has also participated in such processes as <br />comprehensive master plan amendments, bond issuances, public pension <br />collective bargaining, municipal strategic planning, commercial redevelopment <br />efforts and legislative initiatives. Dan has represented the Homestead Housing <br />Authority on a variety of matters and has been involved in the topic of affordable <br />housing throughout Miami -Dade County. His government practice also includes <br />representing developers and other property owners before local governments for <br />land -use and zoning matters, for such things as land -use map changes, <br />rezonings, special exceptions and conditional uses, variances, and a myriad of <br />other development related issues. <br />Dan served on the City <br />Council for the City of Miami Springs for two tenns, first <br />elected in 2009—becoming the youngest elected official In city history and ane of <br />the youngest in Miami -Dade County. Prior to that, he served on the city's Zoning <br />and Planning Board, Board of Adjustment and Code Review board. While in office, <br />he was a member of the Intergovernmental Relations Legislative Committee of the <br />Florida League of Cities, chaired the Legislate Committee of the Miami -Dade <br />League of Cities and participated on the host committee of the National <br />Association of Latino Elected Official's Annual Conference. <br />In February <br />of 2011, Dan was named one of the "Top Young Leaders of Miami" by <br />Latino Leaders Magazine, and, in November of 2011, he was named the "Elected <br />Official of the Year' by the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In <br />2015, he was named a Miami Fellow by the Miami Foundation and 2016 accepted <br />into Leadership Florida's Connect Florida program. He has recently been named a <br />Rising Star by the Daily Business Review, a Top 40 under 40 Lawyer by the South <br />Florida Business Journal, and the Top Legal Up and Comer by South Florida <br />Business and Wealth Magazine. <br />Dan is heavily involved in the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as <br />an Honorary Member of its Board of Directors, Co -Chair of its Government Affairs <br />Committee and member of its Small Business Committee. In 2018, the Chamber <br />awarded Dan the annual Sunshine Lawyer of the Year Award. An alumnus of the <br />Miami Fellows program, he remains involved with the Miami Foundation, <br />advancing various efforts and programs across the County. Dan has been <br />involved with the American Cancer Society for many years, serving as Honorary <br />Chair of the River Cities Relay for Life from 2011 to 2012 and an active participant <br />before and after that period. <br />Dan has been involved with the American Cancer Society for many years, serving <br />as Honorary <br />Chair of the River Cities Relay for Life from 2011 to 2012 and an <br />active participant before and after that period. He also served on the Board of <br />Directors of his high school alma mater, Monsignor Edward Pace High School, as <br />well as President of Its Alumni Association.
