The current bridge is two lanes with a raised pedestrian sidewalk along the north side. Services our team provided included intersection improvements, signing/pavement markings, sidewalk and ADA improvements, signal modifications, and structural engineering, including bridge evaluation,
rehabilitation , design, permitting, and coordination with FDOT to comply with Local Agency Program (LAP) funding.
b.
(1) TITLE AND LOCATION (City and State) Dixie Highway Flyover Pedestrian Bridge over Hillsboro Canal, FDOT District Four
(2) YEAR COMPLETED
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES 2012
CONSTRUCTION (If applicable)
(3) BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE [X] Check if project performed with current firm
Served as structural engineer. This pedestrian bridge is adjacent to the Dixie Highway Bridge and consists of a 215-foot span using a single composite steel trapezoidal box girder for similar aesthetics. The girder ends were made integral with the large counterfort concrete abutments at each end in order to increase stiffness and reduce vibration. Hand calculations were performed to calculate the fundamental
frequency of vibration, and the frequency on the first vertical mode was found to be critical at 3.1 Hz. A 3D FEM using Larsa 4D was developed to independently confirm that the design satisfied the minimum required frequency of 3.0 Hz found in the AASHTO Pedestrian Bridge Specifications.
c.
(1) TITLE AND LOCATION (City and State) Atlantic Boulevard Bascule Bridge Improvements including Decorative
Sails and Lighting, Pompano Beach, FL
(2) YEAR COMPLETED
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES 2019
CONSTRUCTION (If applicable) 2019
(3) BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE [X] Check if project performed with current firm
Structural engineer Kimley-Horn designed a replacement traffic railing to improve safety and aesthetics, as well as an under-bridge walkway
to improve pedestrian access to the water. The project involved the design and construction of enhancements to the bridge façade, tender house, traffic railings, lighting, large tensioned sails at each end of the bridge and computerized uplighting, artwork on bridge façades, land-based lighting, and a pedestrian esplanade under the bridge connecting restaurants and buildings from the south to the north.
d.
(1) TITLE AND LOCATION (City and State)
US 1 over the Sebastian Inlet, Observation Pier Replacement, and Miscellaneous Bridge Repairs, FDOT District Four, Indian River and Brevard Counties
(2) YEAR COMPLETED
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES 2015
CONSTRUCTION (If applicable) 2015
(3) BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE [X] Check if project performed with current firm
Structural engineer. Kimley-Horn provided concrete repair and restoration associated with the mainline bridge superstructure. The approach spans use PC/PS AASHTO girders, while the main spans use post-tensioned concrete girders. Repairs include epoxy injection, spall repair,
strand splicing, and the cleaning/coating of existing steel bearings. In addition, the existing observation pier structure was replaced with a new structure utilizing rolled steel beams with an open steel grating deck system.
e.
(1) TITLE AND LOCATION (City and State) Lowson Boulevard Pedestrian Bridges, Delray Beach (2) YEAR COMPLETED
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES 2020
CONSTRUCTION (If applicable) 2020
(3) BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE [X] Check if project performed with current firm
Structural engineer. Kimley-Horn was retained by City of Delray Beach to complete a set of construction plans for two pedestrian bridges for the proposed pedestrian improvements along Lowson Blvd. The bridges will be on either side of Lowson Blvd and provide pedestrian
connectivity over Lake Worth Drainage District’s (LWDD) E-4 Canal . These bridges are part of the bicycle lane addition for Lowson Blvd. The project also includes permitting and coordination with LWDD and the US.
