This approach to <br />sustainability involves working as part of an integrated team in which consultants, clients, stakeholders, and <br />contractors, participate. We use tools like energy modeling and life-cycle cost estimating to investigate <br />designs holistically, often beyond target criteria. <br />We have designed a number of projects that have obtained LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) <br />certification from the USGBC (United States Green Building Council), an industry standard for measuring and <br />evaluating buildings’ impacts on the environment. Even for clients who elect not to pursue certification for their <br />projects, we have incorporated sustainable features in the interest of long-term payback and no-cost-added <br />benefits, such as occupant comfort. <br />JORGE A GUTIERREZ ARCHITECT LLC is a long-standing USGBC Member Organization. In addition to <br />the firm’s certification, Jorge A. Gutierrez, AIA LEED AP will serve as architect of record on our LEED <br />projects. <br />We have designed LEED projects using indoor air quality, concentrating on the building materials including <br />insulation with appropriate heating, cooling and energy efficiency to reduce or eliminate <br />moisture/humidity. <br />Even when a project may not necessarily have to be LEED certified our goal is to make every project <br />resilient by establishing criteria for flood and high wind mitigation, sustainable by properly utilizing the site <br />to take advantage of prevailing winds, tree shading, impervious surfaces and building with local materials <br />and designing vernacular architecture. <br />Page 16
