DESIGN EXPERIENCE WITH ROADWAY AND DRAINAGE PROJECTS
SRS has immeasurable exposure to the design and
construction management of roadway projects. We have
embarked on the roadway designs of numerous municipalities,
for example Miami-Dade County, City of Miami, Town of
Medley, and an array of private land development projects.
The latest project contribution encompasses several roadway
and drainage improvement projects that have been performed
on NW 58th Street and West Dixie Highway for Miami-Dade
County; several roadways for the City of Hialeah totaling over
26-miles of roadways comprising of several different locations:
W 36th Avenue (NW 97th Avenue) and NW 138th Street and
adjacent canal; Miller Drive (SW 56th Street) widening; the
extension of SW 120th Street; and the Roadway Beautification
Project of Collins Avenue.
A very intricate roadway SRS designed was NW 138th Street,
which had a construction cost of over $12,450,000. There were many factors that contributed to the
complexity of this roadway project, for one it was a 6-lane divided roadway that required a continuous
drainage system and 1.4 miles of street lighting. There were signalized intersections at NW 97th
Avenue, NW 102nd Avenue, and NW 107th Avenue, as well as double left turns and deceleration lanes.
On top of that there was a 50’ wide drainage canal with culverts and a canal wall along the north side
of NW 138th Street between NW 97th Avenue and I-75. The project’s obligatory permits ranged from
city permits from Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, Miami-Dade County, RER (DERM), FDOT, SFWMD, COE,
and DEP; to a couple of Environmental Resources Permits (ERP) such as cut and fill calculations and
wetland mitigation.
Aside from our county and municipal roadway design experience, SRS has planned and designed over
2,200-acres of land developments projects within Miami-Dade County. These land developments
consist of the design of all roadways and storm water management systems, many of which are within
Wetland/Environmentally sensitive areas.
As an example of our capability to succeed in large and
multifaceted projects, SRS was the program manager
(Master Consultant) for the DERM FEMA/DORM Program.
The FEMA/DORM project was a cooperatively funded effort
supported by the Federal Government, State of Florida, and
Miami-Dade County intended to mitigate problems that
arose as a result of Hurricane Irene (October 1999) and the
“No Name Storm” (October 2000). As a Master Consultant
we were responsible for the coordination of twelve
engineering design consultants and seven land surveying
firms involved in the design of approximately four hundred
ninety mitigation projects. These projects ranged from
drainage improvements to total roadway reconstruction,
canal dredging, culvert cleaning, and canal bank restoration.
We oversaw the construction efforts of five contractors
performing work with an estimated construction value of
$35,000,000.00. Furthermore, we were accountable for all
document control related to these projects, approval of
payment for design, surveying, geotechnical reports, and
construction in accordance with FEMA required guidelines.
58
