`/�Y OF SUN ""_ <br />Shrub and groundcover material shall be pruned a minimum of once per month to ensure the best <br />shape, health and character of the individual plant if needed. Mechanical trimming may only be used <br />when the health or appearance of the plant will not be damaged by the mechanical trimmers. <br />Groundcover plants shall be selectively cut back to encourage lateral growth and kept in bounds and <br />out of other plantings. On SR AlA (Collins Avenue) the Contractor shall trim shrubs and groundcover, <br />as needed, to meet the criteria set forth in FDOT Index 546. Cut back overgrowth of shrubs and <br />groundcover that extends into the right-of-way preventing clear line of sight. <br />Contractor shall fertilize, water (as necessary), trim, eliminate weeds, add or replace mulch around <br />all shrub and groundcover beds within all of the Work areas and repair or replace damaged or dead <br />landscaping. Dying or dead shrubs, hedges, plants and flowers shall be replaced at no cost to the <br />City unless the condition of the landscaping is due to an outside third party, force majeure, or directly <br />by the City's representatives. Examples include damage due to vehicular accidents, third party <br />pruning, hurricanes, etc. <br />Keep areas surrounding the base of bromeliads and cups free from leaf debris and hardwood mulch. <br />Remove dead leaves at base to give clean appearance. Remove mother plant after the flower spike <br />has declined. When pups become approximately 1/3 the size of mother plant, divide pups and re- <br />plant. Dust with snail bait if needed and dust soil with timed release fertilizer as needed. Do not <br />allow micro -nutrients to drift into bromeliads and do not overwater. Every year, depending on <br />growing conditions, remove all the mother plants and replenish the planting bed soil and replant that <br />seasons pups for all clumping species such as Aechmea species, Neorgelia species, etc. <br />1.13 MULCH <br />Mulch shall be certified arsenic free, Premium Gold, Grade 'A' Mulch or approved equal (provide <br />evidence of type and grade of mulch to City prior to delivery for approval). Contractor shall maintain <br />a maximum depth of (2.5'1 of mulch around landscaping beds including tree rings. If trees or shrubs <br />are mulched too heavily it is detrimental to the plant. Contractor shall remove excess mulch while <br />taking care not to injure the plant. Mulch shall be installed so as to not be within 4" of base of tree <br />trunk (trunk and flare should be visible) and 1" below adjacent curbs and pavement. Mulch shall be <br />laid evenly and Contractor shall be careful not to cover any ground landscape lighting or irrigation <br />heads. Contractor will provide and install all required mulch at the contract unit prices established <br />in the Contract as requested by the City. Mulch is on an "as needed" basis and will be considered a <br />"Supplemental Service." <br />1.14 SOD MAINTENANCE/MOWING <br />Properly maintained grass and vegetation provide a pleasing appearance and proper ground cover <br />for recreational areas and rights-of-way and are essential elements of a healthy community. More <br />vitally, this presents less chance of defects and potential safety problems, including a reduction in <br />possible injuries during recreational activities, as a result of improperly maintained turf. Somewhere <br />in some section for both bids, we need to emphasize that it is the contractor's responsibility to notify <br />the City if any City program or function is creating a challenge for maintenance and that the <br />contractor and the city will work together to find a solution — an example is a wear area in the park <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach I ITB 20-08-01 Right -of -Ways and Facilities Landscape Maintenance Services E <br />
