CTA Project No. 19-0035-001-01 02222-2 Golden Shores Street Lighting <br />October 12, 2020 SIB Bid No. 20-09-01 <br />The CONTRACTOR shall take all risks attending the presence or proximity of pipes, <br />poles, conduits, walls, buildings, and all other structures, utilities, and property in the <br />vicinity of his work. He shall be responsible for all damage, and assume all expenses, for <br />direct or indirect injury and damage, caused by his work, to any s uch pipe, structures, <br />etc., or to any person or property, by reason of injury to them, whether or not such <br />structures, etc., are shown on the Drawings. <br />B. Barriers shall be placed at each end of all excavations and at such places as may be <br />necessary along excavations to warn all pedestrian and vehicular traffic of such <br />excavations. Barricades with flashing lights shall also be placed along excavation from <br />sunset each day to sunrise of the next day until such excavation is entirely refilled, <br />compacted, and paved. All excavations shall be barricaded where required to meet <br />OSHA, local and Federal Code requirements, in such a manner to prevent persons from <br />falling or walking into any excavation within the pump station fenced property. <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.01 MATERIALS <br />A. General: Materials shall be furnished as required from on -site excavations or from <br />acceptable off-site sources as required. The CONTRACTOR shall notify the ENGINEER <br />of the sources of each material at least ten calendar days prior to the anticipat ed use of <br />the materials. <br />B. Backfill: In general, clean sandy excavated material, that is free from organics clay and <br />construction debris can be used for backfill material. All material to be used as selected <br />backfill shall be able to pass a 3/4 -inch sieve. If, in the ENGINEER's opinion, excavation <br />material is unsuitable for backfill purposes, imported material having a sand equivalent <br />value of not less than 20 percent shall be used for this portion of the trench backfill. All <br />backfill material (placed above select backfill) shall be able to pass through a 6 -inch ring. <br />If suitable backfill is not available from the excavations, it shall be obtained from off site <br />sources. <br /> <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.01 EXCAVATION <br />A. The CONTRACTOR shall perform all excavation o f every description and of whatever <br />substance encountered, to the dimensions, grades and depths shown on the Drawings, <br />or as directed. All excavations shall be made by open cut. All existing utilities such as <br />pipes, poles and structures shall be carefully located, supported and protected from <br />injury; in case of damage, they shall be restored at the CONTRACTOR's expense. <br />B. Excavated unsuitable material shall be removed from the site and disposed of by the <br />CONTRACTOR. Materials removed from the trenches shall be stored and in such a <br />manner that will not interfere unduly with pump station operations, traffic on public <br />roadways and sidewalks and shall not be placed on private property. In congested <br />areas, such materials as cannot be stored adjacent to the trench or used immediately as <br />backfill shall be removed to other convenient places of storage acceptable to the CITY at <br />the CONTRACTOR's expense. <br />C. Excavated material that is suitable for use as backfill shall be used in areas where <br />sufficient material is not available from the excavation. Suitable material in excess of <br />backfill requirements shall be used on the pump station site as directed by the <br />ENGINEER.
