Panelboards: 1/4 inch. <br />2.12 PANELBOARD AND SWITCHBOARD SURGE PROTECTIVE DEVICE <br />A. This section describes the material and installation requirements for surge protective <br />devices (SPD) in switchboards, panelboards, and motor control centers for the <br />protection of all AC electrical circuits. <br />B. SPDs shall be listed and component recognized in accordance with UL 1449 and UL <br />1283. <br />C. SPD shall be installed and warranted by and shipped from the electrical distribution <br />equipment manufacturer’s factory. <br />D. SPD shall provide surge current diversion paths for all modes of protection; L -L, L-N, L- <br />G, N-G in WYE systems, and L-L, L-G in DELTA systems. <br />E. SPD shall be modular in design. Each module shall be fused with a surge rated fuse. <br />F. A UL approved disconnect switch shall be provided as a means of disconnect in the <br />switchboard device only. <br />G. SPD shall meet or exceed the following criteria: <br />1. Maximum surge current capability (single pulse rated) shall be: <br />a. Service entrance switchboard/panelboard 300kA <br />b. Branch panelboards 150kA <br />c. Motor control centers 80kA <br />2. UL 1449 Listed and Recognized Component Suppression Voltage Ratings shall <br />not exceed the following: <br />Voltage L-N L-G N-G <br />208Y/120 400V 400V 400V <br />480Y/277 800V 800V 800V <br />H. SPD shall have a minimum EMI/RFI filtering of -50dB at 100kHz with an insertion ration <br />of 50:1 using MIL STD. 220A methodology. <br />I. SPD shall be provided with 1 set of NO/NC dry contacts . <br />J. SPD shall have a warranty for a period of five years, inco rporating unlimited <br />replacements of suppressor parts if they are destroyed by transients during the warranty <br />period. Warranty will be the responsibility of the electrical distribution equipme nt <br />manufacturer. <br />K. Approve manufactures are: <br />1. Cutler Hammer CPS Series <br />2. Square D Company XTE Series <br />3. Current Technology Select 2 series
