Project Approach and Understanding
PROJECT UNDERSTANDING
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Pedestrian Bridge with Park Elements (Bridge Park) was the result of a City of Sunny Isles (City)
planning study funded by a matching Miami-Dade County Transportation Planning Organization grant.
The design concept goal is to incorporate accessibility, seating, landscaping, and safety measures
complementing Samson Oceanfront Park to create not just a bridge crossing Collins Ave, but a park within
an iconic structure. For this reason, the new structure will be called “Bridge Park” throughout this
narrative.
The Bridge Park crosses Collins Avenue just south of 174th Street providing pedestrian access to Samson
Oceanfront Park. The bridge site is bounded by 174th Street to the northwest, City-owned Samson
Oceanfront Park to the east, Winston Tower Condominiums to the southwest, the Double Tree Resort to
the southeast, and the Chateau Beach Residences to the northeast. The Study team secured temporary
construction, utility, and permanent easements on the west side of Collins Avenue adjacent to the privacy
wall on the Winston Tower property. The skewed bridge crosses Collins Avenue and touches down at the
City-owned Samson Oceanfront Park.

NA Bridge Park Site

Samson Oceanfront Park

Winston Tower 600

Chateau Beach Residences

DoubleTree Resort

Walgreens

Project Site Plan
