Conceived by West 8, the elegant and
simple truss is ground-breaking in its use of wood
as a primary material to span the 40 meter clearing
accross the Wilhelmina Canal.
The ramps with their bright red steel railings
offer comfortable access for pedestrians and
cyclists and create alternating views over the
canal, culminating in a beautiful sightline towards
Oirschot’s historical St Peters Church.
Connecting visitors directly to the town square
and matching the character of the surrounding
woodland, the bridge is transparent, compact in
form, and uses Azobé wood to traverse the canal.
The bridge is a pinnacle landmark for the Green
Corridor, a 13 km long recreational route through
a National Landscape which links the city of
Eindhoven with the historical centre of Oirschot.
The Green Corridor:
The Green Corridor will become the recreational
bicycle connection between the center of
Eindhoven, Oirschot and Het Groene Woud.
In 2012 the integrated vision of Green Corridor
through West 8 was presented to the Municipality
of Eindhoven. It is a route of 13 kilometers in
total.
The municipality of Oirschot, the municipality
of Eindhoven and Brabants Landschap have the
plan to realize the Green Corridor to connect the
Market in Oirschot and the center of Eindhoven.
This will make a beautiful and friendlier
route for cyclists and pedestrians, turning the
Oirschotsedijk car-free and, in total, around
9,000 trees are to be planted with the creation
of a flowery grassland on both sides of the Green
Corrdior.
