RESOLUTION NO. 2021- 315 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR HOUSE BILL <br />6027 AND SENATE BILL 594 WHICH WOULD REPEAL THE <br />PREEMPTION OF LOCAL LAWS REGULATING THE USE OR SALE OF <br />AUXILIARY CONTAINERS, WRAPPINGS AND DISPOSABLE PLASTIC <br />BAGS, AS WELL AS POLYSTYRENE PRODUCTS; URGING THE <br />FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS TO <br />SUPPORT AND APPROVE THE LEGISLATION; DIRECTING THE CITY <br />CLERK TO DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING <br />FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, House Representative Michael Grieco has filed House Bill 6027, and Senator <br />Linda Stewart has filed the companion Senate Bill 594, for consideration by the Florida Legislature <br />which repeals the preemption of local laws regulating auxiliary containers, wrappings and <br />disposable plastic bags, as well as the use or sale of polystyrene products; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission believes that environmental issues of this nature should <br />be determined locally, in accordance with the City's home rule authority; and <br />WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of residents and visitors of the City, and of the State <br />of Florida, to adopt House Bill 6027 or Senate Bill 594. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Support of House Bill 6027 and Senate Bill 594. The City Commission hereby <br />expresses support for House Bill 6027 and Senate Bill 594, and urges the Florida Legislature to <br />adopt, and Governor Ron DeSantis to support and approve, the bill. <br />Section 2. Directions to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies <br />of this Resolution to Representative Michael Grieco, Senator Linda Stewart, Governor Ron <br />DeSantis, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, <br />the Florida League of Cities, and the Miami -Dade League of Cities. <br />Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. <br />PASSED AND ADOPTED on this 18th day of February 2021. <br />George H.
