RESOLUTION NO.2021 - <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING APRIL AS WATER <br />CONSERVATION MONTH IN THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, AND SUPPORTING THE NATIONAL "WYLAND MAYOR'S <br />CHALLENGE FOR WATER CONSERVATION" IN THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT <br />COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the importance of high -quality drinking <br />water to the public's health, safety and welfare; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of Florida has designated April as Water Conservation Month; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission further recognizes the importance of conserving this <br />precious resource; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") is within Miami -Dade County's <br />critical "water caution area" as declared by the South Florida Water Management District and our <br />limited water resources are being shared between our environment, agriculture, and urban areas; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, conservation plays an important role in protecting and preserving the delicate <br />ecosystem; and <br />WHEREAS, by conserving our water resources we are also saving money -- the more we <br />preserve the longer our water supply will last; and <br />WHEREAS, the City continues to explore ways to manage residential consumption of <br />water, and to inspire its residents to care for our natural resources; and <br />WHEREAS, annually, the National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation is held, <br />which is a healthy, non-profit water use and pollution reduction competition between cities with <br />the aim of promoting cleaner communities; and <br />WHEREAS, with the encouragement of the City, residents may register their participation <br />in the City's Challenge online by making simple pledges to decrease their water use and to reduce <br />pollution for the period of one year, thereby assisting the City to apply State and Federal water <br />conservation strategies and to target mandated reductions; and <br />WHEREAS, from April 1 - 30, 2021, the City wishes to inspire its residents and its <br />neighboring communities to take the "Wyland Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation" by <br />making a series of online pledges at www.mywaterpledge.com to reduce their impact on the <br />environment and to see immediate savings in their water bills. <br />R2021 Water Conservation - Wyland Challenge Page 1 of 2 <br />
