1. Policy Adoption <br />a. After review by the City Attorney's office, the Sustainable <br />Procurement Policy will be adopted via Resolution. <br />2. Department Training <br />a. After policy adoption, City departments will be trained on <br />sustainability, and provided guidance on how to incorporate <br />set initiatives and educate their vendors. City departments <br />shall endeavor to procure products, services, capital items, <br />and engage in behaviors which integrates fiscal responsibility, <br />sustainability, and resilience. This includes purchases and <br />behaviors which: <br />• Conserve natural resources. <br />• Are environmentally preferable products. <br />• Are non -ozone depleting substances. <br />• Use low, non -toxic or non -hazardous chemicals. <br />• Are energy, water, and resource efficient. <br />• Utilize renewable energy, renewable materials, or recycled <br />products. <br />• Reduce materials that are placed in landfills. <br />• Utilize products which are rechargeable and reusable. <br />• Reduce greenhouse gas emissions. <br />• Will be resilient to climate change impacts. <br />• Support economic development of the region. <br />3. Sustainability Challenge <br />a. The City Commission and the Office of the City Manager will <br />challenge departments to develop ideas that promote <br />sustainability and improve the well-being of the environment <br />and the community. The proposed ideas will serve as <br />aspirational goals and will be implemented where feasible. <br />b. Department Heads shall provide their ideas along with their <br />plan for implementation to the City Manager, or designee, for <br />consideration. The City Manager will review and advise of <br />approval to pursue the proposed initiative(s). <br />Examples of such ideas include, but are not limited to: <br />
