RESOLUTION NO.2021 - 32115 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, <br />DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO SOLICIT PROPOSALS FROM <br />QUALIFIED ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING FIRMS <br />SPECIALIZING IN PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITIES TO CONDUCT A <br />FEASIBILITY STUDY, BUILDING ANALYSIS, AND SITE ASSESSMENT <br />FOR THE PURPOSE OF EVALUATING THE FEASIBILITY OF <br />MAINTAINING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN THE EXISTING <br />BUILDING, OR CONSTRUCTING A NEW STAND-ALONE POLICE <br />DEPARTMENT ON OTHER AVAILABLE CITY PROPERTY BASED <br />UPON THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S CURRENT AND FUTURE NEEDS; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS <br />NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR <br />CONFLICTS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") desires a safe and secure community <br />for all its residents and visitors; and <br />WHEREAS, the safety and security of its residents and visitors is of paramount <br />importance to the City Commission of the City; and <br />WHEREAS, the current location of the police department serving the City is on the second <br />floor of Government Center, and therefore lacks visibility and accessibility to its residents and <br />visitors, especially during weekend and evening hours when the City Government operations are <br />closed; and <br />WHEREAS, the City owns the building located at 18070 Collins Avenue, which was <br />formerly operated as a Tony Roma's restaurant, but is now vacant and available to be used as a <br />potential site for the police department's operations ("Tony Roma's Space"); and <br />WHEREAS, the City also owns the property at 18080 Collins Avenue, which was <br />formerly operated as a car rental business, but is now vacant and available to be used as a potential <br />site for the police department's operations ("Enterprise Site"); and <br />WHEREAS, the City is committed to providing a higher level of service, visibility and <br />accessibility to its residents and visitors for the protection of person and property; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach wishes to direct the <br />City Manager to solicit proposals from qualified architectural and engineering firms specializing <br />in public safety facilities to conduct a feasibility study, building analysis and site assessment for <br />the purpose of evaluating the feasibility of maintaining the police department in the existing <br />building, with modifications, or constructing a new stand-alone police department on either the <br />Tony Roma's Space or the Enterprise Site, based upon the Police Department's current and future <br />needs. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA: <br />R2021 Direct CM to Conduct Feasibility Study on PD Relocation Page 1 of 2 <br />
