Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting April 17,2014 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida <br /> 7F. An Ordinance of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida,Amending <br /> Chapter 100"Animals"of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Sunny Isles Beach to Create <br /> a New Section 100-3 Entitled"Retail Sale of Dogs and Cats"; Providing for Severability; <br /> Providing for Inclusion in the Code; Providing for Repeal of Conflicting Provisions; <br /> Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> (Deferred from 03/20/14) <br /> Action:[City Clerk's Note: Distributed Support Letters from "Best Friends Animal Society" <br /> and "The Humane Society".] City Clerk Hines read the title, and City Attorney Ottinot <br /> reported noting that this Ordinance was revised based on Lake Worth's Ordinance which <br /> requires the retail store to show a Certificate of Source of where the dog or cat came from to <br /> avoid any puppy and cat mills. This Ordinance was sponsored by Commissioner Levin. <br /> Public Speakers: None <br /> Commissioner Levin said she is fine with this revised Ordinance and it is a good <br /> compromise. Today we received correspondence from The Humane Society of the United <br /> States, and The Best Friends Animal Society and they are both encouraging our adoption of <br /> this Ordinance. In fact, today she spoke with State Director Kate MacFall of the Humane <br /> Society and they are happy that we are doing this. <br /> Vice Mayor Aelion moved and Commissioner Levin seconded a motion to approve the <br /> proposed Ordinance on first reading. The motion was approved by a roll call vote of 5- <br /> 0 in favor. Second reading,public hearing will be held on Thursday, May 15,2014,at <br /> 6:30 p.m. <br /> Vote: Commissioner Gatto yes <br /> Commissioner Levin yes <br /> Commissioner Scholl yes <br /> Vice Mayor Aelion yes <br /> Mayor Edelcup yes <br /> 7G.
