Russo, City Manager <br />FROM: Fred A. Maas, Chief of Police <br />DATE: 7/17/2014 <br />RE: Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture (DOJ and LETF) Funds to <br />purchase a Citywide Security CCTV Camera System, Emergency <br />Traffic Support Trailer and other permissible items listed on the <br />attached certification, in an amount not to exceed $1,324,440.82 <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure of partial <br />Federal (DOJ) and Local Law Enforcement (LETF) Forfeiture Funds, previously <br />awarded to the Police Department as the results of investigative participation in <br />forfeiture and seizure cases. These funds are permissible by law to be spent for <br />the purchases of police equipment and other law enforcement activities. It is <br />requested that we be permitted to utilize up to $1,324,440.82 of said funds on <br />deposit for such purpose. <br />REASONS: <br />The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in DEA / FBI / <br />HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Initiative Group that conducts <br />numerous ongoing proactive investigations and has a need for the attached <br />listed equipment. These items will provide for enhanced security throughout or <br />city parks and buildings, more efficient response to traffic emergencies and <br />participation in community policing events. <br />ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br />One of the benefits of participating in and providing personnel into high intensity <br />Agenda Item No. IOF <br />Date 7/17/2014 <br />429 <br />
