May 8, 2020

Collier County EMS
8075 Lely Cultural Parkway, Suite: #267
Naples, FL 34113

Re: OCI Associates, Inc.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am pleased to take this opportunity to recommend OCI Associates, Inc. My experience with this
engineering firm was during the construction of our recent fire station on Captiva Island. The
project was a complex design in order to meet the demands of the Fire District. The Captiva
station is the only one on the island, which meant it had to function in many roles for the
administration, operations, and training staff.

The challenge we presented for the MEP design was that we wanted the building to be as green
and mechanically efficient as possible. The station would have to function as our EOC after a
catastrophic event such as hurricane while running on generator power for potentially 2-3 weeks.
This meant we had to use as little power as necessary to operate while at the same time
providing power to the entire station for crews to live and work in. We also wanted the fire
protection system to be designed with a separate training module built-in to supply our training
stairwell. The system needed to provide protection to the facility while at the same time having a
section not active in order to operate in a training scenario. I feel in conjunction with Sweet
Sparkman Architects, OCI did a fantastic job meeting these demands for us.

In closing, I would like to recommend OCI Associates as a very effective and professional
engineering firm, and I wish you well in your project.

Respectfully,

Jeff Pawul, Fire Chief
Captiva Island Fire District
239-472-9494 x203
jpawul@captivafire.com
