CGL Companies | 26
CLEMSON
POLICE
STATION
LOCATION
Clemson, South Carolina
SIZE
8,000 SF addition
4,000 SF renovation
COMPLETION DATE
February 2020
PROJECT COST$3 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Clemson City Police Department was
constructed and occupied in 1996 and
has served the City well for 24 years. At
the time of its opening, 25 sworn and
civilian employees worked in the facility.
Today, 46 employees use the same space.
The current police station is a two- story
8,000 SF building with adjacent shared
space with the Clemson Free Clinic used
for evidence storage, uniform storage, the
armory and city-employee fitness center.
The CGL Team was tasked with
developing an architectural space
program for the City of Clemson Police
Station renovation and expansion.
Working closely with the City of Clemson
staff, the team toured the current facility
and interviewed police department
staff to gain a better understanding of
current operations. Based on the tour,
interviews, and a space survey the team
developed an architectural space program
to identify space needs and operational
requirements for the Police Department
and Dispatch.
The detailed space program identified
a need of 14,043 required square feet
to house public lobby, executive office,
support services, investigations, training,
operations, dispatch/detention and
building support.
To achieve the necessary square feet the
City will renovate a portion of the existing
8,000 SF building and construct an 8,000
SF addition behind the existing Police
Station.
