RESOLUTION NO. 2022 - 32,81 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR SENATE BILL 476 AND HOUSE BILL 297 <br />WHICH WOULD PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR AGGRESSIVE CARELESS DRIVING <br />RESULTING IN SERIOUS BODILY INJURY OR DEATH AND PROPERTY DAMAGE; <br />URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS TO <br />SUPPORT AND APPROVE THE LEGISLATION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO <br />DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, on February 10, 2021, 11 -year old Anthony Reznik tragically lost his life as a <br />result of a driver running a red light; and <br />WHEREAS, during the 2021 Legislative Session of the State of Florida, Senator Pizzo and <br />Representative Aloupis sponsored Senate Bill 476 and House Bill 297, respectively, known as the <br />"Anthony Reznik Act"; and <br />WHEREAS, the Anthony Reznik Act would provide for penalties for aggressive careless <br />driving resulting in serious bodily injury or death and property damage; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") believes that careless and aggressive <br />drivers need to be held accountable for their actions resulting in bodily injury and death or <br />property damage; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission and City staff finds that the passage of the <br />aforementioned bills is in the best interest of the City. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Support of Senate Bill 476 and House Bill 297. The City Commission hereby <br />expresses support for Senate Bill 476 and House Bill 297, and urges the Florida Legislature to <br />adopt, and Governor Ron DeSantis to support and approve, the bills. <br />Section 2. Directions to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies <br />of this Resolution to Senator Pizzo, Representative Aloupis, Governor Ron DeSantis, the Speaker <br />of the Florida House of Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, the Florida League <br />of Cities, and the Miami -Dade League of Cities. <br />Section 3. Effective Date.
