RESOLUTION NO. 2022 - <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NEW HIGH <br />SCHOOL TO SERVICE SUNNY ISLES BEACH AND NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO WORK WITH NEIGHBORING <br />COMMUNITIES AND THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO ESTABLISH <br />A NEW HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE AREA; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL; AND <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") strives to improve the quality of life <br />of all of residents, including for the youth of our community, and their education; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that there is a need for a public high school for use <br />by the City's residents, as there is no public school located within the City's geographical <br />boundaries or within the geographical boundaries of neighboring communities, including Golden <br />Beach, Surfside, Bay Harbor Islands, Bal Harbor, and the Village of Indian Creek (the "Neighboring <br />Communities"); and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 1001.42, Florida Statutes, the School Board of Miami - <br />Dade County (the "School Board") is authorized to adopt and provide for the execution of plans <br />for the establishment, organization, and operation of the schools within Miami -Dade County, <br />Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, the City desires the establishment of a nearby public high school for use by <br />the City's residents and Neighboring Communities; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to work with the Neighboring Communities in <br />support of a new public high school in close proximity to the City to service City residents and <br />Neighboring Communities; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that this Resolution is in the best interest and <br />welfare of the City and its residents. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Recitals. The above -stated recitals are true and correct and are incorporated <br />herein by this reference. <br />Section 2. Expressing Support. That the City expresses support for the establishment of a <br />new public high school in close proximity to the City to service City residents and Neighboring <br />Communities. <br />Section 3. Authorization. The City Manager is hereby authorized to take any and all actions <br />in furtherance of this Resolution, including working with Neighboring Communities and the <br />School Board to accomplish the purposes of this Resolution. <br />@BCL@68064315.docx Page 1 of 2 158 <br />
