Qf, St}e4 <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />18070 Collins Avenue <br />Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160 <br />(305) 947-0606 City Hall <br />(305) 949-3113 Fax <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners <br />FROM: Larisa Svechin, Mayor <br />DATE: February 16, 2023 <br />RE: Express Support of Florida House Bill 269 - Public Nuisances <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />This Resolution is presented for your consideration. <br />REASONS: <br />During the 2023 Legislative Session of the State of Florida, Representatives Caruso and Lope: <br />sponsored House Bill 269, commonly referred to as the "Public Nuisances Bill". The proposec <br />legislation would amend sections 403.413, 784.048, 806.13, and 871.01 of the Florida Statutes to <br />better address and prevent harmful behavior. The legislation would also prohibit the distribution of <br />certain materials that leads to littering, as well as the projection of certain images onto buildings or <br />other property without permission, provides enhanced criminal penalties for persons who commit <br />violations while evidencing religious or ethnic animus, and reclassifies and increases penalties for <br />those who commit such offenses. This is an important step towards creating a safer and more <br />inclusive community for all residents of the State of Florida. <br />This Resolution expresses the city's support of the passage of House Bill 269. <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />Resolution <br />Item Number: 10.1- <br />
