RESOLUTION NO. 2023 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE SELECTION OF MEMBERS TO THE ENVIRONMENT SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2023; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in January of 2022, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") adopted Ordinance No. 2022-576, establishing the "Environment Sustainability Advisory Committee" ("ESAC" or the "Committee"); and WHEREAS, the ESAC is responsible for providing guidance and recommendations regarding the City's efforts to provide and promote general environmental improvement trends, green initiatives, and sustainable development, defined as a pattern of resource use that aims to meet community needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met, not only in the present, but in the indefinite future; and WHEREAS, the Committee shall be composed of seven (7) members who shall be appointed for a one-year term, and which may be renewed by the City Commission as often as desirable; and WHEREAS, Section 74-8 of the City's Code of Ordinances provides that the Mayor shall appoint the Chairperson and one (1) additional Committee member, the Vice Mayor shall appoint two (2) Committee members, and the remaining City Commissioners shall appoint one (1) Committee member each, and that the Vice Chairperson shall be selected by majority vote of the members of the Committee; and WHEREAS, Committee members shall be governed by the Rules of Procedure that govern the City Commission, the Florida Sunshine and Public Records Laws, and the terms of this Resolution; and WHEREAS, City residents interested in serving on the Committee have submitted board applications for the Commission's consideration. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The foregoing recital paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and the same are hereby made part of this Resolution. Section 2. Appointment of Committee Members. The Mayor shall appoint the Chairperson and one (1) additional Committee member, the Vice Mayor shall appoint two (2) Committee members, the remaining City Commissioners shall appoint one (1) Committee member each, and the Vice Chairperson shall be selected by a majority vote of the members of the Committee. Additionally, a member of the Committee forfeits his or her right to serve on the Committee if such member fails to comply with the requirements of the City Code, County R2023 Esac Appointments 2023 Page 1 of 3
