RESOLUTION NO. 2023 -- <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING STRONG SUPPORT FOR A PROPOSED TRAFFIC LIGHT AND <br />CROSSWALK ON 196 STREET AND COLLINS AVENUE; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK <br />TO DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER <br />TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING <br />FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") recognizes its responsibility to protect <br />the health and safety of its residents and visitors; and <br />WHEREAS, the City wants to ensure that residents and visitors alike are able to walk, jog, <br />bicycle, skateboard, or use other modes of transportation safely throughout the City; and <br />WHEREAS, in furtherance of the City's efforts to promote mobility safety, City <br />Commission finds that a proposed traffic light and crosswalk on 196th Street and Collins Avenue <br />("Intersection") will protect the public welfare; and <br />WHEREAS, the City supports the Florida Department of Transportation's ("FDOT") <br />decision to conduct a traffic study ("Study") to determine the feasibility of installing a traffic <br />control device at the Intersection; and <br />WHEREAS, should the Study find that it is appropriate to install a traffic signal at the <br />Intersection, said traffic signal must be synchronized with the other two (2) adjacent traffic <br />signals located at 193rd and 191St Streets and Collins Avenue; and <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of its residents and visitors, <br />including those of our neighboring community of the Town of Golden Beach, to have a safe <br />Intersection. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The recitals set forth in this resolution are incorporated <br />herein by reference as if fully set forth herein. <br />Section 2. Expression of Support for Proposed Traffic Signal. The City Commission hereby <br />supports a proposed traffic light and crosswalk at 196th Street and Collins Avenue. <br />Section 3. Directions to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies <br />of this Resolution to the Florida Department of Transportation. <br />Section 4. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all <br />things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br />Section 5. Effective Date.
