At the direction of the City Manager a complete assessment of the Police <br />Department was conducted to include an audit of police equipment. That audit revealed the need tp <br />purchase 23 bullet proof vests and 7 tactical carriers for use by police officers. This purchase will <br />ensure that each officer has a current bullet proof vest which is essential to our officer's safety. The <br />purchase of vests will cost $32,000.00. <br />Due to the hiring of personnel to fill vacancies there is a need to purchase handheld police radios and <br />vehicle police radios to make sure we have sufficient supplies. The purchase of the radios from Miami - <br />Dade County will cost $47,778.50 for handheld radios and $17,800.00 for vehicle police radios. <br />The Police Department is seeking approval to expend DOJ funds to purchase additional automatic <br />license plate reader sites. The new sites will be located at strategic locations which will enhance public <br />safety. With the addition of these ALPR sites to existing locations, the Norman S. Edelcup K-8 Schoc <br />and several religious sites will be protected using this technology. We are seeking approval to expend <br />$187,705.79 which includes a 10% contingency cost with Millenium (sic) Products Inc. for this project. <br />Lastly the Police Department is seeking approval to expend $232,149.56 to purchase four (4) Forc <br />Item Number: 10.0 <br />
