We have developed a sample design project sequence that illustrates critical tasks and milestones. In general, there are <br />three phases to successfully complete any project assigned under this contract in a timely fashion with a focus on cost control. <br />• Preliminary Design Phase <br />• Final Design Phase and Permitting <br />• Construction Phase <br />1. Preliminary Design Phase <br />It is during this phase that the problem is clearly defined, improvement objectives are set, and a feasible solution is developed. <br />Our team will collect the data necessary to analyze the situation. An analysis will then be performed and alternatives evaluated. <br />Evaluation will include comparison of the degree to which each alternative meets the objective, cost analysis, permittability, and <br />constructability. <br />Initial discussions with permitting agencies are critical at this time. The public can also be informed of the proposed project and the <br />preferred solution. Cost implications and potential funding must also be considered during this phase. Milestones in the Preliminary <br />Design Phase include: <br />• A kick -off meeting to set project objectives, scope, schedule, and team communication. <br />• A review of analytical results for the existing conditions to ensure clear understanding of the problem and to begin <br />developing alternatives. <br />• When appropriate, a public meeting can be scheduled to present the results of the analysis, the alternative solutions, <br />funding opportunities, and to obtain input. <br />Sample Project Schedule <br />Months <br />1 1 1 2 1 3 1 4 5 6 <br />7 8 9 10 11 12 13 ( 14 15 16 <br />A. Construction Certification <br />OMilestones <br />Scheduling milestone reviews with City staff will be one means by which the Kimley -Horn team will track and monitor project <br />progress. Deliverables in the Preliminary Design Phase include data compilation in a manner acceptable to the City, an analysis <br />in an agreed upon format, and a Preliminary Design Report including a cost analysis and recommended solution. If available, <br />applicable grant submittals will also be prepared.
