• Increasing public education and awareness of the importance of dune <br />restoration and maintenance. <br />• Creating or modifying existing and new dune access points at 45 -degree <br />angles to minimize storm surge damage. <br />• Identifying funding for dune restoration projects. <br />• Planning for the impacts of sea level rise. <br />• Restoring existing dunes to their original boundaries. <br />• Creating a maintenance standard and schedule for all dunes. <br />• Prioritizing new dune locations for storm protection, enhancing <br />ecology/aesthetics and increasing property values. <br />• Providing typical topographic design profiles for new dunes. <br />• Establishing a native salt tolerant vegetation palette. <br />• Mandating future beach construction to follow the guidelines stipulated in <br />this plan. <br />The Plan should be used as a guide in the City's efforts in managing the urban, <br />man-made dune system as close to a natural system as possible, with the <br />intent of ensuring the dunes provide storm protection, erosion control, and a <br />biologically -rich habitat for local species. The City Manager (or designee) <br />should assign the inspections of the dunes to o specific City department. <br />Background <br />The City of Sunny Isles Beach marine shoreline and beach is located within <br />Miami -Dade County, which is bordered by Golden Beach to the North and <br />Haulover Beach to the South.
