Our support was not only because of our <br />long-standing relationship with our sister city Netanya, but also in response to antisemitism. <br />Antisemitism is a persistent, shape -shifting hatred that is an affront to our values as Americans. We <br />see that even though this atrocity is the worst this century has seen, with the Holocaust being the <br />worst in the last 80 years, a national surge of antisemitism was recorded following the attack. Sadly, <br />much of this antisemitism has sprung at College campuses. The US House approved a resolutior <br />11/2/23 condemning the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at higher <br />education institutions. The resolution took aim at colleges that have been embroiled in controversy <br />over responses to the Israel -Hamas war, declaring that the support of Hamas and Hezbollah on <br />campuses "may lead to the creation of a hostile environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff." <br />While we have no colleges within the city limits, we have public land which have the potential to allow <br />for a hostile and dangerous situation. <br />I believe we can all agree that we must similarly stand against and condemn any action which supports <br />Hamas, Hezbollah, or any other terrorist group. The support of Hamas, Hezbollah, or any other <br />terrorist group, as well any public displays of antisemitism, has no place in the City of Sunny Isles <br />Beach or anywhere.
