20 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Confined space <br /> <br />As stated in OSHA regulations, Section 1926.21 (b) (ii), "All employees required <br />to enter into confined or enclosed spaces shall be instructed as to the nature of <br />the hazards involved, the necessary precautions to be taken, and in the use of <br />protective and emergency equipment required. The employer shall comply with <br />any specific regulations that apply to work in dangerous or potentially dangerous <br />areas. <br /> <br /> <br />Emergency reserve equipment <br /> <br />An Employees working in open trenches where atmospheric conditions make <br />breathing difficult shall assure that rescue equipment is available. All <br />superintendents shall assure that rescue equipment is available to employees <br />working in open trenches where atmospheric conditions make breathing difficult <br />This equipment shall include respiratory apparatus, a safety harness and line, or <br />a basket stretcher. This equipment shall be maintained so that it is accessible <br />and available for immediate use. <br /> <br />B. If the employee enters a bell-bottom, pier hole and other deep and confined <br />footing excavation, the employee should wear a harness with a lifeline securing <br />and attached to it. The lifeline should be attended at all times, while the employee <br />wearing the lifeline and is in the excavation.
