y c j' FLO Vy� <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />18070 Collins Avenue <br />Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160 <br />(305) 947-0606 City Hall <br />(305)949-3113 Fax <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners <br />VIA: Stan Morris, City Manager <br />FROM: Edward Santiago, Chief of Police <br />DATE: February 15, 2024 <br />RE: Approval of a Mutual Aid Agreement with the South Florida Task Forc( <br />Burglary Apprehension and Vehicle Crimes Unit. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends approval of this Resolution. <br />REASONS: <br />The Police Department is seeking to enter into this mutual aid agreement with the South Florida Task <br />Force Burglary Apprehension and Vehicle Crimes Unit to proactively investigate these crimes with the <br />shared resources of the participating law enforcement agencies. This agreement will allow the <br />participating departments to render law enforcement assistance for the purposes of jointly addressing <br />burglary offenses, auto theft, and related criminal activity that may cross over into Palm Beach County, <br />Broward County, Miami -Dade County, Martin County and St. Lucie County and into each participating <br />agency's jurisdictional boundaries. Entering into this agreement will allow the participating law <br />enforcement officers to provide assistance in each others County and/or jurisdictional boundaries and <br />to take any and all necessary law enforcement action in the investigation, apprehension and arrest of <br />individuals while involved in the task force operations. These types of crimes have plagued South <br />Florida for years. This agreement will allow our detectives to continue to aggressively and proactively <br />investigate these crimes without jurisdictional limitations while working with the task force. The term <br />of this agreement is one year upon execution and will be automatically renewed for consecutive one- <br />year periods. <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />Resolution <br />Mutual Aid Agreement <br />Item Number: 10.13 <br />55 <br />
