RESOLUTION NO. 2014 - 230Z <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE NOT TO EXCEED <br />AMOUNT FROM FORTY -FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS ($44,000.00) TO <br />FIFTY -SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($57,000.00) WITH THE MIAMI <br />HERALD PUBLISHING COMPANY FOR RETAIL ADVERTISING <br />SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS <br />NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, The Miami Herald is a major daily newspaper in South Florida that also <br />publishes the Neighbors section twice a week; and <br />WHEREAS, since the City's incorporation, the City has complied with various State <br />public noticing requirements by placing legal notices in either The Miami Herald, Neighbors or <br />Metro sections, and for the required Spanish language election notices, in El Nuevo Herald; and <br />WHEREAS, on October 17, 2013 via Resolution No. 2013 -2140, the City Commission <br />approved an Agreement with The Miami Herald to allow the City to achieve a rate discount, with <br />an option for a second year, in an amount not to exceed Twenty -Four Thousand Dollars <br />($24,000.00); and <br />WHEREAS, on March 20, 2014 via Resolution No. 2014 -2213, the City Commission <br />approved an increase to the Agreement with The Miami Herald in an amount not to exceed <br />Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000.00) bringing the total not to exceed amount to Forty -Four <br />Thousand Dollars ($44,000.00); and <br />WHEREAS, due to an increase in demand of advertising services needed to legally <br />comply with statutory obligations to inform residents and property owners of City Commission <br />public hearings, Planning and Zoning, Capital Projects, Human Resources, and other related <br />matters regarding the City, an additional Thirteen Thousand Dollars ($13,000.00) is needed for <br />The Miami Herald bringing the total not to exceed amount to Fifty -Seven Thousand Dollars <br />($57,000.00). <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Approval of Authority. The City Commission hereby approves the authorization <br />to increase the not to exceed amount from Forty -Four Thousand ($44,000.00) to Fifty -Seven <br />Thousand Dollars ($57,000.00) with the Miami Herald Publishing Company for retail <br />advertising services. <br />Section 2. Authorization of City Manager.
