FLO
Or 5UK ;y'9
TO:
VIA:
FROM:
DATE:
RE:
City of Sunny Isles Beach
18070 Collin's Avenue
Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160
(305) 947-0606 City Hall
(305)949-3113 Fax
MEMORANDUM
Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners
Stan Morris, City Manager
Fabricio Volpi, Public Works Director
September 19, 2024
Approval of an Agreement with MBR Construction for Maintenance Repairs
of the North Bay Road / Emergency Bridge
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of the attached Resolution.
REASONS:
With an average of 50,000 pedestrians, scooters and bikes crossing the North Bay Road Pedestrian
Emergency Bridge per month, it is estimated that more than 2 million crossings have taken place since
opening in 2018. This usage is far greater than originally envisioned and the surface of the bridge
approaches have been greatly effected. There is a dire need to strip the surfacing, fill the gaps, and
resurface this bridge for the safety and enjoyment of our residents. MBR Construction bid on this
unique project and proposes to strip the existing surfacing and the artificial turf, raise the indentations
with concrete, and resurface the entire approaches with a similar safety surfacing in conformance with
the original design. This work to be performed will be limited to the north and south bridge approach
ramps. No work will be performed on the span section of the bridge with the artistic element.
The City desires to enter into a new Agreement with Contractor, using Sheriff of Broward County,
Florida, RLI#19031MFW. Pursuant to the City's procurement code provisions, purchases made under
State, County or other governmental contracts, or competitive bids with other entities are exempt from
the City's competitive bidding procedures. MBR Construction has agreed to said services.
The City wishes to contract with contractor to provide the desired services for $829,937.00, plus
$82,993.70 for contingency, if necessary, resulting in a total amount not -to -exceed amount of
$912,930.70
Item Number: 10.Q
