Tonight we are going to be honoring
former City Commissioners Roslyn Brezin and Gerry Goodman. Before we became a City
both of them were instrumental in creating the opportunity for us to be where we are today.
Roslyn Brezin was on the original Charter Committee, and she was a political activist and
vote getter when the City needed those votes to become a City. Before Gerry Goodman
became a Commissioner we spent a few years together on the Comprehensive Planning
Committee and created the original land Ordinances that today are still part of the City and
responsible for the beautiful east side and Sunny Isles Boulevard. It wouldn't be without
your efforts that we have been able to achieve some of these tremendous goals for our City.
Mayor Edelcup said he and Gerry Goodman were first elected in 2001, and we kind of
celebrated that last week with Gerry's birthday. When he became the Mayor upon the death
of Mayor David Samson, he had the privilege of honoring Roslyn Brezin to replace him as a
Commissioner At- Large. As a Commissioner, Roslyn Brezin demonstrated her love for this
City. She was at City Hall every day trying to answer questions not only for our staff but also
for residents of our City who would pop up in City Hall to speak to a Commissioner about
various things or complaints or comments they may have had to make our City abetter place.
2
