Hines, MMC, City Clerk DATE: 10/16/2014 RE: Resolution Calling a Special Election to be Held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, and a Run -Off Election, if Necessary, on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, and Designating a Registered Voter to Serve on the Canvassing Board RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution which provides for conducting a Special Election on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, and if necessary, a Run -Off Election on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. It also designates a registered voter to serve on the Canvassing Board. REASONS: Commissioner George "Bud" Scholl resigned his seat as City Commissioner, effective November 21, 2014, in order to run in the Mayoral seat for the General Election to be held on November 4, 2014. This Resolution provides the required details regarding the conduct of the Special Election on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, and if necessary, a Run -Off Election on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, for the purpose of submitting to the electorate the names of all qualified candidates for election to the position of City Commissioner, Seat 3 (Residential Southern Area), for the unexpired term. The City Commission must designate a registered voter to serve with the City Manager and the City Clerk as the City's Canvassing Board. Emanuel Pine has served on the City's Canvassing Board for several years, and he is willing and able to serve again. He has proved to be very knowledgeable of the process, and therefore it is recommended that Mr. Pine be designated as a member of the Canvassing Board.
