THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH
PROJECT NO. 21-1011
BUILDING DEPARTMENT RELOCATION TO ANNEX

Project No. 21-1011 November 2024 031000 -13
2. Removable Ties: Where taper ties are approved for use, the larger end of the
taper tie shall be on the wet side of walls in water retaining structures. After the
taper tie is removed, the hole shall be thoroughly cleaned and roughened for bond.
A precast neoprene or polyurethane tapered plug shall be located at the wall
centerline. The hole shall be completely filled with non-shrink grout for water
bearing and below-grade walls. The hole shall be completely filled with non-shrink
or regular cement grout for above-grade walls, which are dry on both sides.
Exposed faces of walls shall have the outer 2 inches of the exposed face filled with
a cement grout, which shall match the color and texture of the surrounding wall
surface.
3.6 JOINT CONSTRUCTION:
A. Setting Waterstop:
1. In order to eliminate faulty installation that may result in joint leakage, the
CONTRACTOR shall be particularly careful to get the correct positioning of the
Waterstop during installation. Adequate provisions must be made to support and
anchor the Waterstop during the progress of the WORK and to insure the proper
embedment in the concrete. The symmetrical halves of the Waterstop shall be
equally divided between the concrete pours at the joints. The center axis of the
Waterstop shall be coincident with the joint openings. Maximum density and
imperviousness of the concrete shall be insured by thoroughly working it in the
vicinity of all joints.
2. In placing PVC Waterstop in the forms, the CONTRACTOR shall provide means to
prevent the Waterstop from being folded over by the concrete as it is placed.
Waterstop shall be held in place with light wire ties on 12-inch centers which shall
be passed through hog rings at the edge of the Waterstop and tied to the curtain
of reinforcing steel. Horizontal Waterstop, with their flat face in a vertical plane,
shall be held in place with continuous supports to which the top edge of the
Waterstop shall be tacked. In placing concrete around horizontal Waterstop, with
their flat face in a horizontal plane, the CONTRACTOR shall work concrete under
the Waterstop by hand so as to avoid the formation of air and rock pockets.
3. In placing center bulb Waterstop in expansion joints, the center bulb shall be
centered on the joint filler material.
4. Waterstop in vertical wall joints shall stop 6 inches from the top of the wall where
such Waterstop does not connect with any other Waterstop and is not to be
connected to a future concrete placement.
B. Joint Location:
1. Construction joints and other types of joints shall be provided where indicated.
When not indicated, construction joints shall be provided at 25-foot maximum
spacing for all concrete construction. Where joints are indicated spaced greater
than 40 feet apart, additional joints shall be provided to maintain the 25-foot
maximum spacing. The location of all joints, of any type, shall be submitted for
acceptance by the ENGINEER.
C. Joint Preparation:
1. The CONTRACTOR shall take special care in preparing concrete surfaces at joints
where bonding between 2 sections of concrete is required. Unless otherwise
indicated, such bonding will be required at all horizontal joints in walls. Surfaces
