RESOLUTION NO. 2025 -� <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR FLORIDA SENATE BILL 430 AND FLORIDA <br />HOUSE BILL 1607, RELATING TO CARDIAC EMERGENCIES; DIRECTING THE CITY <br />CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS <br />RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, Florida Senators Corey Simon, Danny Burgess, and Kristen Aston Arrington <br />introduced Senate Bill 430 ("SB 430"), and Florida House Representatives Taylor Yarkosky, Alex <br />Rizo, Adam Anderson, Yvette Benarroch, Omar Blanco, Debbie Mayfield, Danny Nix, Bill <br />Partington, and Judson Sapp introduced House Bill 1607 ("HB 1607"), collectively referred to as <br />"Cardiac Emergencies"; and <br />WHEREAS, SB 430 and HB 1607 requires school districts to provide basic training in first <br />aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation ("CPR") once during middle school and once during <br />high school in a physical education or health class; and <br />WHEREAS, SB 430 and HB 1607 also require that every public school develop a plan for <br />urgent life-saving emergencies to guide school personnel in responding to sudden cardiac arrest <br />or similar emergencies on school grounds; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it in the best interest of its student residents to <br />express support for SB 430 and HB 1607. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Express Support of Senate Bill 430 and House Bill 1607. The City Commission <br />hereby expresses its support of Senate Bill 430 and House Bill 1607. <br />Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies <br />of this Resolution to the Governor of the State of Florida, the President of the Florida Senate, the <br />Speaker of Florida House of Representatives, Florida Senators Corey Simon, Danny Burgess, and <br />Kristen Aston Arrington, and Florida House Representatives Taylor Yarkosky, Alex Rizo, Adam <br />Anderson, Yvette Benarroch, Omar Blanco, Debbie Mayfield, Danny Nix, Bill Partington, and <br />Judson Sapp, and the Florida League of Cities. <br />Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to <br />do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution. <br />Section 4. Effective Date.
