RESOLUTION NO. 2025 - <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO FLORIDA SENATE BILL 918, AND FLORIDA <br />HOUSE BILL 1225, RELATING TO EMPLOYMENT OF MINORS; DIRECTING THE CITY <br />CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS <br />RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, Florida State Senator Jay Collins introduced Senate Bill 918 ("SB 918"), and <br />Florida Representatives Monique Miller and Mike Giallombardo introduced House Bill 1225, <br />regarding employment of minors; and <br />WHEREAS, the bills seek to revise provisions in Florida's Labor Law to allow minors 13 <br />years of age to work beginning the summer of the calendar year in which they turn 14 years of <br />age, change restrictions that govern the employment of minors 16 and 17 years -of -age relating <br />to time of day, number of hours, and meal breaks, and allow minors 14 and 15 years -of -age to <br />work under certain circumstances; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to express its opposition to SB 918 and HB 1225. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Express Opposition of Senate Bill 918 and House Bill 1225. The City Commission <br />hereby expresses it opposition of Senate Bill 918 and House Bill 1225. <br />Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies <br />of this Resolution to the Governor of the State of Florida, the President of the Florida Senate, the <br />Speaker of Florida House of Representatives, Florida State Senator Jay Collins, Florida <br />Representatives Monique Miller and Mike Giallombardo, and the Florida League of Cities. <br />Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to <br />do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution. <br />Section 4. Effective Date.
