of SUNNY JS`�f <br />�F City o Isles Beach <br />.fSunn y <br />u ,;xil x <br />Proclamation <br />yt F �FtAQ'1O �F <br />O <br />FY Os fu!! ♦H <br />WHEREAS, The Republic of China (Taiwan) observes the 114th National Day on October 10th, 2025; and <br />WHEREAS, the United States and Taiwan have maintained close friendship based on the 1979 Taiwan <br />Relations Act (Public Law 96 -896th Congress), which established the basis of U.S. -Taiwan ties. And under <br />the leadership of President Lai Ching-te, it has been demonstrated that Taiwan is a pivotal force for <br />democratic stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific; and <br />WHEREAS, the United States Department of State, while stating that China was using the UNGA <br />Resolution 2758 as a tool to falsely portray Taiwan's status as illegitimate as a means to suppress Taiwan, <br />also reaffirmed the unwavering United States commitment to Taiwan and the long-standing efforts to <br />preserve peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait; and <br />WHEREAS, Taiwan is the United States' 7th largest trading partner, as well as Florida's 4th largest <br />bilateral merchandise trade market in the Asia-Pacific region; and <br />WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives approved the United States -Taiwan Expedited <br />Double -Tax ReliefAct by an overwhelming majority on January 15, 2025, underscoring the high regard and <br />strong support on both sides of aisle for addressing double taxation issues between the two countries; and <br />WHEREAS, Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton made landfall in September and October 2024, <br />respectively, impacting vast areas and causing casualties and damage, and the Government of Taiwan <br />donated $300, 000 through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami to the Florida Disaster Fund; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Taiwan and the United States signed the Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral economic <br />and trade cooperation on January 8, 2025, embodying the determination of both sides to advance toward a <br />stronger partnership on mutual trade, industry, and investment activities; and <br />WHEREAS, Taiwan's meaningful participation in numerous international organizations, including the <br />International Civil Aviation Organization, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Framework <br />Convention on Climate Change, and the International Criminal Police Organization would benefit regional <br />development, peace, and prosperity; and <br />WHEREAS, since the establishment of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami in 1988, Taiwan <br />has developed sister-state/sister-city relations with Florida, and we are proud to have the `City in Florida' <br />be a sister -city with `City in Taiwan'. We support Taiwan's mission of economic liberalization, <br />democratization and significant international participation. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, DO I, Larisa Svechin, as Mayor, and on behalf of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, <br />hereby proclaim October 10, 2025, as Republic of China (Taiwan) National Day in the City of <br />Sunny Isles Beach. <br />Date: October 10`x', 2025 <br />Mayor Larisa Svechin <br />370 <br />
