'rY OF SVK �r <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />18070 Collins Avenue <br />Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160 <br />(305) 947-0606 City Hall <br />(305) 949-3113 Fax <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners <br />VIA: Stan Morris, City Manager. <br />FROM: Edward Santiago, Chief of Police <br />DATE: September 18, 2025 <br />RE: Approval to Expend DOJ Forfeiture Funds for Continued School Resource <br />Officer Position and the Purchase of a Mobile Command Center Vehicle <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends approval of the Resolution. <br />REASONS: <br />The Police Department respectfully seeks approval to allocate Department of Justice forfeiture funds to <br />cover the salary and benefits of a full-time School Resource Sergeant (SRS) for Fiscal Year 2025/2026. <br />The total estimated cost, includingfringe benefits, is $215,000.00. <br />This position is critical to maintaining a consistent and proactive law enforcement presence within our <br />local school, supplementing the existing School Resource Officer provided by Miami -Dade Schools <br />Police. The SRS will work collaboratively with the Miami -Dade officerto: <br />• Enhance campus safety for students, faculty, and staff. <br />• Build positive relationships with students and parents. <br />• Participate in educational initiatives, including the D.A.R.E. program and other youth engagement <br />efforts. <br />In addition, The Police Department is seeking approval to allocate Department of Justice (DOJ) <br />forfeiture funds for the purchase of a mobile command center vehicle from Flymotion Inc. This <br />specialized unit will serve as a mobile operations center, significantly enhancing the department's ability <br />to coordinate and manage responses during critical incidents, natural disasters, large-scale public <br />events, and tactical operations.
