Page 8 of 22 <br /> <br />falling into them. <br />➢➢ The edge of the transit route used by trucks and <br />machinery must be cordoned off at a distance of at least <br />6 feet from the edge of the trench or pit using barrier <br />tape or a line of planks firmly anchored to the ground. <br />➢➢ The vehicle and machinery access points and transit <br />routes must be clearly signposted. <br />➢➢ Whenever vehicles or machines have to reverse close to <br />the edges of trenches or pits, they must be guided by <br />specialized personnel in order to prevent them from <br />collapsing or falling into the earthworks. <br /> <br /> <br />CONFINE SPACE <br /> <br />HAZARD HEALTH AND SAFETY MEASURES <br />➢ Toxic materials such as <br />carbon monoxide from <br />temporary heaters in <br />low- lying areas; <br />refrigerants; high <br />voltage <br />transmission <br />equipment; physical <br />hazards involving poor <br />lighting and cramped <br />working conditions. <br /> <br />➢ Have a competent person identify all confined spaces in <br />which its employees may work. <br /> <br />➢ Before any worker works in a permit space, the entry <br />employer must train authorized entrants, attendants, <br />entry supervisors, and other employees with duties under <br />the OSHA standard (such as persons who test and <br />monitor the atmosphere in a permit space) to understand <br />the hazards in the permit space and the methods used to <br />protect against those hazards. If a worker is not <br />authorized to perform entry rescues, the training must <br />include the dangers of attempting such rescues. All <br />training must be provided at no cost to workers. After the <br />training, the employer must ensure that the workers have <br />the understanding, knowledge, and skills necessary to <br />safely perform their assigned duties. <br /> <br />➢ All employers engaged in construction work must <br />➢ (1) identify any confined spaces in which their workers <br />will be working, and (2) determine whether any such <br />spaces are permit spaces. <br />➢ <br />➢ A continuous air monitoring must done in order to ensure <br />aire quality. <br />➢ <br />➢ Ventilate the confine space; pure oxygen must no never <br />use. Use clean air. <br />➢ <br />➢ Employer or responsible party must develop a written <br />permit space program, and entry is only permitted under <br />the terms of the program. That employer, who is an <br />“entry employer” under the standard, must keep any <br />unauthorized persons from entering the permit space,
