RESOLUTION NO. 2026 - [ T? <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br />BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO FLORIDA HOUSE BILL <br />1251; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS <br />RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS <br />NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, Florida House Bill 1251 ("HB 1251") imposes additional restrictions and <br />mandates on the expenditure of public funds by local governments; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed legislation would limit municipal discretion and <br />undermine home rule authority; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that HB 1251 would hinder the City's ability <br />to respond effectively to local needs; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of its residents, <br />visitors and stakeholders to oppose HB 1251. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Expression of Opposition. The City Commission hereby expresses its <br />opposition to HB 1251. <br />Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit <br />copies of this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities, the President of the Florida <br />Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and the Governor of the <br />State of Florida. <br />Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized <br />to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br />Section 4. Effective Date.
