RESOLUTION NO. 2026 - ✓`� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO FLORIDA HOUSE BILL 103 AND FLORIDA SENATE BILLS 122 AND 650, RELATING TO LOCAL BUSINESS TAXES; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Florida House Bill 103, Senate Bill 122, and Senate Bill 650 (collectively, the "Proposed Legislation") propose the repeal of Chapter 205, Florida Statutes, which governs local business taxes, and substantially limit municipal authority to levy and administer such taxes; and WHEREAS, local business taxes provide an important revenue source that supports essential municipal services and regulatory functions; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that the proposed legislation would undermine municipal home rule authority and negatively impact the City's fiscal stability; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interests of its residents to oppose the Proposed Legislation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Expression of Opposition. The City Commission hereby expresses its opposition to the Proposed Legislation. Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities, the President of the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and the Governor of the State of Florida. Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 4. Effective Date.
