RESOLUTION NO. 2026 - ✓`� <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br />BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO FLORIDA HOUSE BILL 103 <br />AND FLORIDA SENATE BILLS 122 AND 650, RELATING TO LOCAL BUSINESS <br />TAXES; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS <br />RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS <br />NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, Florida House Bill 103, Senate Bill 122, and Senate Bill 650 (collectively, <br />the "Proposed Legislation") propose the repeal of Chapter 205, Florida Statutes, which <br />governs local business taxes, and substantially limit municipal authority to levy and <br />administer such taxes; and <br />WHEREAS, local business taxes provide an important revenue source that <br />supports essential municipal services and regulatory functions; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that the proposed legislation would <br />undermine municipal home rule authority and negatively impact the City's fiscal stability; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interests of its residents <br />to oppose the Proposed Legislation. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Expression of Opposition. The City Commission hereby expresses its <br />opposition to the Proposed Legislation. <br />Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit <br />copies of this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities, the President of the Florida <br />Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and the Governor of the <br />State of Florida. <br />Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized <br />to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br />Section 4. Effective Date.
