RESOLUTION NO. 2026 - J lQ( <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br />BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO FLORIDA HOUSE BILL 605; <br />DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO <br />EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, Florida House Bill 605 ("HB 605") proposes to expand the use of public <br />funds and governmental resources for purposes that are unrelated to core municipal <br />services; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission is concerned that such measures may set <br />precedent for the inappropriate use of public funds and erode local fiscal discretion; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that decisions regarding the use of public <br />funds should remain within the control of local governments; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interests of its residents <br />to oppose HB 605. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Expression of Opposition. The City Commission hereby expresses its <br />opposition to HB 605. <br />Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit <br />copies of this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities, the President of the Florida <br />Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and the Governor of the <br />State of Florida. <br />Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized <br />to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br />Section 4. Effective Date.
